A.E.R.O. Animal Education and Rescue Organization Caring for sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife

Welcome to A.E.R.O.! Animal Education and Rescue Organization (A.E.R.O.) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned, injured, and sick native Virginia wildlife in need of help in order to survive. Our Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (VDWR) licensed wildlife rehabilitators, apprentices, and care providers devote hundreds of hours to restore the wildlife in their care to good health so that they can be released back into the wild. Currently, A.E.R.O. consists of a dedicated team of six skilled at-home rehabbers, alongside multiple apprentices diligently working towards becoming full-fledged rehabbers themselves. In addition to our core team, we are supported by compassionate caregivers and volunteers who play integral roles in our mission. Each year, A.E.R.O. opens its doors to approximately 1000 animals in need of care and support. Through our collective efforts and unwavering dedication, we strive to provide the best possible rehabilitation services, ensuring that each animal receives the care and attention it deserves. Join us in our endeavor to make a difference in the lives of wildlife and contribute to a healthier, more compassionate world. Wildlife Advice

At A.E.R.O., we prioritize not only the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife but also the preservation of their natural family structures and environments. When you call you will speak directly with a licensed volunteer for accurate advice. We actively advise the public on how to reunite baby wildlife with their mothers whenever possible, ensuring that families stay together whenever feasible. Moreover, we take great care to ensure that babies that come into our care are not separated unnecessarily from their home environment, promoting the well-being and natural development of these animals. Our commitment extends beyond providing immediate care; it encompasses fostering a deeper understanding and respect for wildlife and their habitats.

Individualized Care

Our dedicated team of licensed wildlife rehabilitators offers compassionate care tailored to the individual needs of each animal, ensuring their well-being and fostering their recovery. Through our specialized rehabilitation programs, we aim to prepare these animals for their eventual release back into the wild, where they belong. By providing a nurturing environment and personalized attention, we give these creatures the best possible chance at returning to their natural habitats and thriving once again.

Public Outreach and Education

Through our educational initiatives and conservation efforts, we strive to foster a deeper appreciation for the importance of preserving and protecting local wildlife habitats. By empowering individuals with knowledge and resources, we aim to promote responsible behaviors that minimize human-wildlife conflicts and promote biodiversity. Together, we can create a more sustainable future where humans and wildlife thrive in harmony.
