Why fluids matter
Most wildlife need 50-60 ml/kg/day for basic maintenance (~5% body weight). Many animals arrive at least 10% dehydrated. Fluid therapy replaces the deficit over 3 days: half on day 1, the remainder split across days 2 and 3. Correct fluid therapy stabilizes shock, supports the body’s metabolic transition, and significantly improves survival outcomes.
