On May 23rd, a large mangy red fox was trapped at a neighborhood home in Centreville, VA. An AERO transporter brought him to one of AERO’s rehabbers for treatment. The fox was covered in scabs and missing most of his fur, but was otherwise healthy. According to our wonderful rehabber he was the largest fox she has seen! His case was less severe than others treated in the past.
While in captive care, he was housed in a large, outdoor wooded enclosure. He responded well to mange/de-worming medications, and seemed to appreciate the respite and fox-appropriate diet. He started to look markedly better over the course of the first week.
On May 31st, he was given a final dosage of mange medication. His release was along a power line field next to a large wooded area, less than a quarter of a mile from the residence where he was trapped. Two days later, he was seen by the “tapper/homeowner” in a much healthier condition roaming his old territory, including her backyard. His fur should completely be filled in by fall.
